Rhonda Hughes, Print Vision founder-owner
Rhonda Hughes started her career in the book business by working as a production manager for Toppan Printing Company in San Francisco, where she worked with publishers like Chronicle Books, University of California Press, and Twelve Trees/Twin Palms to produce high quality sheetfed offset and gravure art and photography books. She transitioned from production to print buying and was responsible for a successful calendar line at Landmark Calendars. After a stint as the director of sales for an international print brokering company, Ms. Hughes established Print Vision, a full-service print management company in 1992, and has produced books, calendars and other printed items for clients including Gibbs Smith, McGraw-Hill, Sasquatch Books, Tin House, Chronicle Books, and Portal Publications.
After years of printing books, Ms. Hughes earned her Master of Arts in English Literature, and in 2001 founded Hawthorne Books. Now entering its 19th year, Hawthorne has published a broad collection of titles that have won regional and national awards such as the Oregon Book Award, Barnes & Noble’s Discover Great New Writers Award, The Great Lakes Colleges Association New Writers Award, the Langum Prize for Historical Fiction, and many others. Film options and international publishing rights on Hawthorne titles have been sold worldwide. Ms. Hughes continues to operate both Print Vision and Hawthorne Books and completed the Publishing Course at Yale University. She is also an adjunct professor in the Publishing Program at Portland State University.
